Your invitation to
Friends of Kelebutan

Dear Lovers,

Kelebutan campus is growing, and we’d love you to be a part of her future.

What started as the two Dwa Chandra villas is now expanding – in both land size and ambition. We hope to become a model, a lighthouse even, for how it’s possible for a community to fight back aggressive developers, preserve Balinese land and culture, build Balinese wealth, and be in joyful ‘right relationship’ as neighbors.

Dwa Chandra and the growing Kelebutan Campus is a social and community venture, and truly blessed by outside forces.

It always seems the right angels come at just the right time, and there have been so many along the journey of the last two years – yourself among them.

A little timeline of the
characters involved…

In terms of foreigners dedicated to the project, one small monkey with cymbals (Anima) turned into two monkeys a year ago – thanks, Caleb!

Then the Lovers & Builders gathering we hosted for six weeks this spring (during a long period of maintenance on the villas) just sort of never ended…Sean, Aisha, and Stefano fell in love with the project for different reasons and moved into Bali Hai, and Antonio drove up on his days off from Potato Head .

Together, we worked on two more crazy land acquisitions.

Finally, last month we brought everyone together (and flew a couple more in) for a two-week “campus design sprint” with the goal of forming a solid foundation for the future.

As a result, we now have 12 of us putting our love for the Campus – and all she represents – at the center of our lives in some form or another. (This is in addition to the 14 person Dwa Chandra team.) And incredibly, everyone involved in the design sprint who was not previously living here – Antonio, Phenom, Mardis, Carmen and Bobby – will be moving to campus in January.

P.S. This is not a cult.

And the bigger vision…

The vision has always been to create an “Esalen in Bali” which is really code for building a “scenius” (a collective scene of genius). Esalen is far from an event venue — it is an energetic epicenter, well known as the birthplace of the human potential movement, a silk-road of ideas and practices that has sent ripples throughout the world in so many forms.

In truth, we wish for the Campus to become cultural infrastructure:

  • A nest for heart-led, avant-garde creatives.

  • A school for exploring the art of relationship and building healthy collectives —from marriage to governance.

  • An incubator for so many worthwhile projects — from plastics to philosophy, books to culture.

  • An model for how to

We hope to host luminaries, sense-makers, peacemakers, and provocateurs. And to provide a sustained base for important conversations, powerful transformations, and spin-out projects whose value one day, we hope, may ripple into the mainstream.

And here is where you come in, fellow Creative!

And as a humble step on that journey, we’d love to invite you to join a simple Whatsapp Group. 🙂

Wait, you built a website for a Whatsapp Group?

Well, yes, sort of.

We build a website to say we really value you, and would love to find ways to play and work together on this important mission for Mama Bali, and for the next leap in understanding ouselves. And we hope this group will be one simple step to get us there.

In this channel you’ll find…

  • Campus Invitations — invites to our annual Bali-Bule Xmas party, Avatar movie night, river clean ups, or next community festival

  • Campus Updates – new venue openings, culture videos, progress on construction, job opportunities

  • Campus Asks - we’d love your recommendations for vendors or contacts, or solutions to solve an intractable problem (we’re still new here, and help navigating Bali from expats is a HUGE gift!

  • Openings to Host (for free) at Dwa Chandra - In cases where we have single-day openings, we’d invite you to help us make use of this incredible space. What should we be hosting here?

  • Last-Minute Deals at Dwa Chandra - right now until December 23rd, each of the villas are available for $350/night (already 70% off). For this group, we will offer an additional 10% credit when you send someone our way on last-minute deals. Dwa Chandra is the economic engine for the campus, and we really appreciate your help to keep her booked!

And in the channel, we hope you’ll share your ideas related to building the Campus…

  • Ideas for activations you’d like to host (how might we make the most use of our space?)

  • People or organizations you think could be great allies or partners

  • Events - any we should know about, especially those that you’re going to!

  • News we should be aware

  • Inspiration of brands, community models, communication strategies we should implement – etc.
